English

Phonics:   Middle secondary are concentrating on the characteristic sounds of letters, letter groups and syllables to start and/or improve pronunciation of words, reading skills, writing skills and communication.

This semester we will be covering Poetry as a writing style and the unit overview is: The World according to me – a personal collection of poetry.  Middle Secondary Cohort will be working on a project to answer the following driving question: How can I show the world who I am?

Shared ReadingOur cohort will be building their knowledge about the differing formats of poetry, by listening to and reading stories covering the concepts of rhyme and self-identity

Writing: The cohort is focusing on varied writing formats through the lens of poetry. Students will be exposed to many familiar and unfamiliar nursery rhymes and poems and create their own by changing and or adding words that are relevant and link to their own self identities and how they see the world around them. A variety of methods to display their developing knowledge will be available.

Maths
Place ValueEach student is concentrating on the numbers relevant to their knowledge level and developing the skill of using place value; measurement; addition and subtraction; patterns; pr. There will be multiple opportunities for students to work in a variety of situations – one on one, pairs, small groups and as a whole class.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
PBL’ is our school’s positive behaviour program. Students are learning all of the school expectations and exactly what that means for them through explicit instruction and lessons each week. Students will develop their resilience and social-emotional learning through the following Core values: Care, Courage and Cooperate.  They will focus on learning some regulation strategies with a core focus on Interception skills.
​​Geography
In geography this semester students will be learning to identify and describe the natural, managed and constructed features of places at a local scale and identify where features of places are located. During this time they will respond to questions about familiar and unfamiliar places by locating and interpreting information from multiple sources eg They represent the location of different places and their features on labelled maps and present findings in a range of texts and use everyday language to describe direction and location.

Health and Physical Education (HPE)

Students will be learning multiple concepts through exploration and be able to achieve the following goals:

  • Identify areas where they can be active and how the body reacts to different physical activities.
  • Demonstrate positive ways to interact with others.

Select and apply strategies to keep themselves healthy and safe and are able to ask for help with tasks or problems.
