Shared reading: Students in Lower Primary 1 & 2 are exploring and identifying what information about themselves they want to share with teachers next year. We are looking at different forms of poetry and learning about the different features of each kind. Lower Primary 1 & 2 are building their knowledge about the formats of different texts and learning questions and phrases to use when inquiring about our Project Based Learning and answering the driving question.
Word Work: Lower Primary 1 & 2 are working with project related words from our ‘book of the week’ and one specific ‘communication’ word each week. Students are learning decoding strategies, participating in a range of phonics activities and guided reading to help build their sound and word knowledge when decoding new words.
Special Places: Students will represent the location of different places that have special meaning to their families on maps. These maps include world, Australian and Indigenous maps. They will use a variety of texts to inquire and learn about why they are special to their families. Students will compare objects and photographs from the past with those from the present and will inquire about how our communication and technology has changed over time.
What Unique Information About Me Do I Want People To Know: This semester we are working on a project about ourselves. Firstly, we are focusing on how all families are different and investigate and explore the heritage of our families. Throughout the semester Lower Primary will identify the unique ways each individual student learns. They will add this information to a portfolio which they will present to their teachers for next year. The student’s portfolio will also include texts and photos showcasing the adapted resources used to achieve and enhance their learning.
